Spartan Athletics is excited to host the TWU 20th Annual WIRELESSWAVE Golf Tournament on June 4th at Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club in Coquitlam.
The purpose of the tournament is to raise scholarship and endowment funds for student-athletes. These funds allow Trinity Western student-athletes to have opportunities they wouldn’t have elsewhere as Spartan Athletics works to develop athletes in all areas of their lives through the Complete Champion Approach TM. By focusing on more than just athletic development, Spartan Athletics is able to better equip student-athletes to enter the marketplaces of life and to make an impact around the world, not only through sport but through any career path they choose.
The tournament is an exciting day that brings together over 170 volunteers including TWU alumni who see the value in giving back to students. With a largely corporate clientele, the golf tournament also provides a great opportunity to showcase Trinity Western to influential business people across Canada and the United States, and to profile TWU as one of the top universities in Canada. Golfers frequently comment that there is “something different” about Trinity Western students, and that they like what they see and where their investment is going. They have come to understand that their investment makes it possible for student-athletes to become more than just athletes, it allows them to become key influencers in society who can make a global impact.
“I’m so appreciative of the scholarship I’ve received because I wouldn’t be here, half-way across the world from my home, without it,” said Spartans track and field star Calum Innes, who hails from Bearsden, Scotland and is a two-time Canada West gold medalist and the 2013 CIS silver medalist in the 60m hurdles. “If I wasn’t given as much as I was, I’d still be stuck in a dead end job back in Scotland. It means the world to me to know that all these people are so generous to give their money to support us.
