Reporting to the Manager, Mission Ministries, this position involves ministering to the hungry, hurting and homeless men and women living outdoors in alleys, under bridges, parks and homeless camps throughout the Fraser Valley through the resource of the Mobile Mission vehicle. This position will assist in the delivery of basic needs (food, warm clothing, shelter or referral) on the street and build rapport with these individuals who have yet to access our continuum of care. They will also assist the Manager of Mission Ministries in liaising with community service providers, city stakeholders to better support people experiencing poverty, homelessness, and addiction in the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver areas. They will also strive to work alongside churches and Strategic Volunteers in regards to the Mobile Mission or ministry that intersects with both with a ministry approach that is consistent with Union Gospel Mission’s Vision and Core values. The weekly schedule for this position is Tuesday to Saturday; 1-9pm.
You will frequently deal with clients in crisis situations, brought about by diverse problems. There will be trained volunteers nearby to assist as required.

We are looking for a mature individual who possesses a deep and vibrant Christian faith, and has a passion and commitment for the care of those marginalized in the Fraser Valley. The ideal candidate will have three or more years of experience in related Outreach work. An excellent knowledge of the issues of poverty, homelessness, and addiction within the Fraser Valley/metro Vancouver, as well as familiarly with the services available in the area, are both essential. Strong interpersonal skills in order to work alongside volunteers and church leaders, as well as marginalized individuals, is critical for success in this role. Experience working in a multi-ethnic and socially diverse community would be an asset. Related post-secondary education is preferred. We are excited to bring onboard someone who is compassionate, self-motivated, and a strong spiritual leader.
This position may have unsupervised access to vulnerable adults or children. Therefore, the successful candidate must provide a current criminal record check that includes a vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.
This position requires the incumbent to drive a UGM vehicle. Therefore, the successful candidate must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and submit a clear current driver’s abstract.
