SUMMER THEATRE CAMP POSITION
Director of Music & Choreography
This position will be dependent upon approval of funding through Canada Summer Jobs. Applicants must i) be 30 years old or younger, ii) have been registered as a full time student in the previous academic year and intend to return on a full time basis in the next academic year, iii) be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and iv) be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with the Ontario legislation and regulations.
University student with music, voice and dance background. Experience working with and leading youth and children. Theatre experience. Additional arts experience is beneficial.
Under the direction of the Theatre Camp Director, the Music & Choreography Director will:
a) Bring his/her abilities to work along side other assistants and volunteers to help children and youth learn elements of theatre and prepare for a final production each week during the Summer.
b) Be available before youth arrive and until they leave during the regular hours of Monday to Friday. Arriving and leaving 15 minutes before and after the 9 am – 3 pm program is typical.
c) Assist in preparing and cleaning up the program area of the camp for each week of camp. Tear down and load out on Friday evening.
d) Rehearse and know the music and create the choreography for each of the selected presentations in advance. The director will be the primary teacher of the music and choreography.
e) Assist in directing and coaching students in theatre and acting. The director will be an integral part of the leadership. He/she will give direction to volunteers when needed.
f) Have his/her own transportation to each of the venues which at the time of posting, are in London, Ingersoll, St. Thomas and Strathroy, ON. A ride from Lambeth area to St. Thomas and Ingersoll will likely be available (carpool).
g) Must be physically capable of moving and lifting boxes of equipment, flats, tables, etc.
h) Not be opposed to the values of the camp. Will be representative of professional and positive leadership in speech and character.
i) The director will work in cooperation with other leaders, fulfilling the mission and values of Fridge Door Live Theatre Company in a positive, creative and encouraging environment.
*** Note. If applicant has other obligations during the Summer during the regular camp hours (M-F during the day, Friday evening), please do not apply. Employees must be present every day during the programs. No absent time is granted.
