Recent Alumni Achievement Award: William Sikkema (’14)
The 2017 Recent Alumni Achievement Award goes to William Sikkema for his outstanding accomplishments in the scientific world. He graduated from Trinity Western with an honours degree in Chemistry and went on to study at Rice University under the supervision of Dr. James Tour—one of the world’s most influential scientists. In the few short years since his graduation, he has developed a material that is capable of restoring electrical activity to a severed spinal cord within 24 hours, and 90% functionality after 2 weeks. William hopes to one day use this to treat people with traumatic injuries and to help them recover from a life of paralysis. We are pleased to recognize William for all his efforts to develop new medical practices that will bring healing to others, all while giving glory to God for everything he’s been able to achieve.
